about

I had been trying to write a time travel song for quite some time. I liked the idea of going back to see a younger self and giving advice, but I got far too caught up in the mechanics of time travel. The first three verses just described what the machine looked like, the mad scientist offering it up, the lab...all without getting to the point of the story.

So I thought, what is time travel if not just space magic. Enter the witch.

We all have thoughts about going back and doing things differently, but ultimately those moments make us who we are now.

As Homer Simpson more eloquently put it, "I wish I wish I hadn't killed that fish"

lyrics

I think im trying to call you
i guess you left your spine at home
you left it there for 13 years
and it took a while to grow

a witch appeared before me
she presented a magic ball
said i could dip inside and choose a time
that i could forget once and for all

an image fades into existence
it gets clearer, more and more
its here i see my younger self
crying on the laminate floor

how i wished to beat you round the head
and show you all the things you could be doing instead
but its useless

i think i'm trying to call you
you left your spine in your bedroom drawer,
you left it there for 13 years
and you dont listen to me anymore

the witch said don't be alarmed now
i see you're feeling quite distressed
just speak to the ball some guidance
and get yourself out of this mess

i must admit that i'd wanted
this feeling for a while
this memories been a torment
and made it hard to get by

I gaze in your crystal blue eyes and
i see a glacier of pain
i'd say you put it on yourself
but you're not all to blame

i know you want catharsis
from a time that you regret
but you'll never have learned anything
if you just choose to forget

i turned to the witch and i bowed my head
thanked her for her time and told her this is the end
no deal
